Concepts and Characteristics of Complex Systems and Final Energy Usage

Abstract:
The growth, development and urban densification are related to consumption and energy dependence. In relation to the consumption of electric energy, such as cities and their regions with predominance of residential, commercial and more vulnerable services. It is vital the understanding of the various interactions between people and energy of utmost importance for 21st century cities and their spatial behavior and distribution. Cities can be understood as Urban Energy Systems - SEU, which represent the combined processes of consumption and energy acquisition as a supply of demands of an urban population. Systems, represented by cities, regions, sub-districts and districts are like space units, infrastructure facilities consisting of homes, buildings, schools, business centers, large shopping centers and streets that connect these space units. The energy issue is closely related to a spatial occupation and distribution of cities. Therefore, this paper explores this conceptual discussion, based on the theoretical and philosophical development of socio-ecological systems, comes with the main objective of serving as a tool for subsidizing urban energy planning and a proposal of public policies for a reduction of urban energy vulnerability.
